New Study Proves Any Amount of BPA Harms Reproductive Health

New Study Proves Any Amount of BPA Harms Reproductive Health

(DrEddyClinic News) Bisphenol A (BPA) http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=32616 is an endocrine disrupting chemical used in the manufacturing of plastics and it’s found in a huge range of products; everything from water bottles to paper receipts. Studies have shown that BPA can leach from these plastic and epoxy products and enter the human body by being ingested, absorbed through the skin, or inhaled. While the FDA announced in July that BPA in food packaging is safe, new research suggests that BPA is harmful to the human reproductive system even in small amounts.

Image

New Findings Show BPA is More Harmful Than Originally Thought

The effects of BPA have historically been difficult to study because the chemical has different mechanisms of action in different tissues, species, doses, and windows of exposure. However, one review of studies published between 2007 and 2013 has given researchers a broader perspective of BPA’s effects on reproductive health. [1] The authors of the review found strong evidence that BPA is an ovarian toxicant as well as a prostate and uterine toxicant. There was concern about BPA’s effects on birth weight as well.

Reduce Your Exposure to BPA

Avoiding BPA http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=32638 in today’s world isn’t easy; however, there are ways to reduce exposure, thus reducing risk for reproductive issues later down the road. Saying no to plastic bottles and foods with packaging — particularly the ones that aren’t labeled BPA-free — is a great start to eliminating BPA from your life. Only take paper receipts if you absolutely need them, or choose electronic receipts if at all possible. Have the majority of your food as whole and raw, and reduce the use of processed foods, particularly if they are stored in plastic packaging and aluminum cans http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=32424. Periodically cleansing your body is also a great way to help reduce your toxin load.

The Chemical and Toxic Metal Cleanse Kit will help you purge your body of both chemical and metal toxins, which can lead to serious health concerns.

What are your thoughts on the pervasiveness of BPA in our environment and food supply? Do you think measures should be taken to eliminate their use? Weigh in and give us your thoughts in the comments!

Cholesterol is NOT the enemy: It's inflammation that's making you fat and killing you slowly

Cholesterol is NOT the enemy: It's inflammation that's making you fat and killing you slowly

by: Jonathan Benson
high cholesterol, heart disease, medical myth

(DrEddyClinic News) The collective psyche of American society is long overdue for a major paradigm shift in its understanding of fats, inflammation, cholesterol, and the true cause of most chronic illnesses. Even many physicians, who should know better, still argue that cholesterol is evil and that sticking to a low-fat diet is good for health. But the fact of the matter is that avoiding fats is toxic to your health, and consuming the many food additives that commonly replace them - these include synthetic trans fats, refined sugars, and processed grains - are a primary cause of disease-causing inflammation.

Image

It all makes sense if you just stop and consider the native role cholesterol plays in protecting arteries against lesions and other damage. Rather than being the cause of plaque buildup in the circulatory system, cholesterol is actually the healing agent the body sends to sites that have been damaged by inflammation. In other words, if you have too much cholesterol buildup in your arteries, your real problem is too much inflammation rather than too much cholesterol, and a whole different mitigatory approach is required to address the problem.

"It's the inflammation in the vessels that starts the lesion," says Dr. Beverly Teter, a lipid biochemist from the University of Maryland who has been researching fats and their affect on the human body for many years, as quoted by CBN.com. "The body then sends the cholesterol like a scab to cover over it to protect the blood system and the vessel wall from further damage."

This runs completely contrary to the prevailing medical dogma, which still maintains that saturated fat and cholesterol are silent killers that can lead to heart disease http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=106, diabetes and other forms of chronic illness. As a result, millions of Americans have been duped into avoiding these necessary nutrients to their own demise, while they instead gorge on unhealthy vegetable oils, trans fats http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=35425, sugars, grains, and phony low-fat junk foods.

"When choosing which fats to eat, pick the ones that are high in omega-3 fats and also choose natural saturated fats," advises Lorie Johnson from CBN.com. "On the other hand, stay away from the fats that lead to inflammation http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4172, such as trans fats and omega-6 fats," she adds, noting that most of the oils used in processed food are unhealthy vegetable oils posing as "nutritious."

Saturated fat and cholesterol necessary for proper cellular function, brain health

What few people today realize is that their bodies actually require both saturated fat and cholesterol for proper metabolism, brain health, hormone balance and cellular homeostasis. Without these two important nutritional components, a cascade of health problems can ensue, including debilitating brain conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. This is especially true for people who take toxic statin drugs to artificially lower their cholesterol levels.

"People with high cholesterol live the longest," says Dr. Uffe Ravnskov, M.D., Ph.D. "Consider the finding of Dr. Harlan Krumholz of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University, who reported in 1994 that old people with low cholesterol died twice as often from a heart attack as did old people with high cholesterol http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=27925."

Garlic's healing properties are so intense that it is 100 times more effective than antibiotic treatments

Garlic's healing properties are so intense that it is 100 times more effective than antibiotic treatments

by: Sarah Landers
garlic, antibiotic properties, natural remedies

(DrEddyClinic News) Garlic http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36203 has been used for thousands of years all over the world, and modern science is now backing up its medicinal properties. A recent study by researchers at Washington University has found that garlic can be up to 100 times as effective at treating bacterial infections as most mainstream antibiotics, as reported by DrEddyClinic News.

Image

Garlic is not just antibacterial, but it is also packed full of antioxidants http://www.antioxidants.news/ that work to improve your overall health. It is high in sulfur, which can help to detoxify your system and remove unwanted toxins http://www.toxins.news/, as well as removing other substances that make your body more vulnerable to infection.

Health benefits of garlic

According to Natural Health 365, aged garlic extract has shown significant promise in its ability to reverse the deadly buildup of plaque in arteries. A study conducted at the independent biomedical research facility LA BioMed, Torrance, California, has proven that adding aged garlic extract supplement to diets reduces the amount of soft plaque – known as low-attenuation plaque – that has built up in the arteries of patients.

Participants in the study were already known to be suffering from metabolic syndrome, which carries with it a number of cardiac disease risk factors. And this isn't the only amazing way that garlic can improve your health. Here are some more reasons to eat garlic http://www.top10grocerysecrets.com/2015-09-18-top-10-reasons-to-eat-more-garlic-prevent-hypertension-viral-infections-dementia-and-more.html:

- Garlic is full of antioxidants that fight cancer-causing free radicals http://www.preventcancer.news/
- Garlic contains allicin, which is an antioxidant that removes infectious pathogens from the skin – preventing acne
- Raw garlic can help control hypertension – again thanks to allicin
- Garlic contains sulfur compounds that shorten the life span of the common cold
- The anti-cancer properties of garlic can reduce the risk of lung cancer by nearly 50 percent for nonsmokers
- Garlic thins the blood and reduces the risk of blood clots
- Garlic's anti-inflammatory properties ease the pain of osteoarthritis

Include more garlic in your diet

Now that you know the reasons why you should eat more garlic, here is a great recipe http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36203. This tasty and filling soup is loaded with healthy and helpful ingredients that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids http://www.omega3.news/ and great for your overall health. Here is what you'll need to include in your next grocery shop:

Ingredients:

    5 bulbs of garlic
    2 Tbs of butter
    2 Tbs of olive oil
    2 large onions
    1 Tbs of fresh thyme
    8.5 ounces of chicken broth
    1 bunch of parsley
    3 cups of bread, chopped
    1 cup of sour cream

Preparation:

Chop tops off garlic and coat in olive oil. Chop thyme, parsley and bread. Preheat the oven to 180 decrees.

Wrap garlic bulbs in tinfoil and bake for an hour and a half. Then allow the garlic time to cool.

Heat two tablespoons of olive oil and butter in a pot on medium heat.

Add onions and cook for ten minutes.

Once garlic has cooled, mash it with a fork and add to the pot. Then add herbs and chicken broth.

Cook on low before adding bread and cooking for five more minutes until bread cubes soften. Pour into a blender and process until smooth. Add sour cream, salt and pepper to taste – then serve and enjoy!

Natural Laxatives: Abdominal Massage for Constipation

Natural Laxatives: Abdominal Massage for Constipation

(DrEddyClinic News) Constipation is a pain, literally and figuratively. Over-the-counter laxatives are often pushed as the quick fix, but they’re not without their problems. Even some so-called natural laxatives can cause pain and side effects. Herbal laxatives can produce unpleasant cramping. Stimulant laxatives are just harsh and require that you set aside your entire day in order to manage the violent effects they produce. What if there was a way to relieve constipation http://www.dreddyclinic.com/findinformation/cc/constipation.php and it was inexpensive, non-invasive, free of nasty side effects, and you could perform it yourself? There is, allow me to introduce you to abdominal massage http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=34071.

Image

What is Abdominal Massage?

Abdominal massage is fairly self explanatory: the abdomen and intestinal areas are massaged with different motions and pressure (always comfortable, never painful). The massage action naturally helps to stimulate peristalsis, decrease colonic transit time http://bit.ly/Colonic-Irrigation and increase the frequency of bowel movements. It also reduces the discomfort typically associated with constipation. Abdominal massage has no adverse side effects and you can easily do it yourself. [1]

How Effective is Abdominal Massage as a Natural Laxative?

Abdominal massage has been used to relieve symptoms of constipation since the 19th century and its popularity has varied over the years. It is what it is and not subject to much “scientific breakthrough” or the hype that comes along with it. That’s unfortunate, because research all over the world has echoed with resounding agreement that abdominal massage can offer relief to persons suffering from constipation. A study in Korea found that abdominal massage was effective for constipation management. [2] In Brazil, researchers discovered that combining isometric training of the abdominal muscles, breathing exercises, and abdominal massage can help increase defecation frequency. [3] It’s also been found that performing the massage with essential oils of rosemary, lemon, or peppermint offers an additional aromatherapeutic benefit and helps to improve constipation symptoms even more than massage alone. [4]

Even the elderly, who often suffer from chronic, debilitating constipation, may find relief with this gentle, natural method. The Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC reported a case of a constipated 85-year-old woman who had unsuccessfully turned to stool softeners for relief. Doctors instructed her to perform a daily, 10-minute abdominal massage at home. When she was reexamined, she reported that her bowel frequency and function had returned to normal and she no longer had to strain or use unpleasant digital evacuation methods. In her case, abdominal massage worked very well. [5]

Abdominal Massage: Try It!

There really is very little question about it, abdominal massage helps to decrease the severity of constipation and helps to increase bowel movements. But, unlike laxatives http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=33724, produces no negative side effects. In fact, it can be downright pleasant. Sweden’s UmeÃ¥ University asked nine adults who were receiving abdominal massage for constipation to weigh in on the experience. Although the subjects reported some initial comfort adjustments (mainly with having someone else massage their abdomen), they described the experience as not only effective in helping to relieve constipation, but also as pleasant and a well-being booster. [6]

Terrifying Toxic Chemicals to Avoid This Halloween

Terrifying Toxic Chemicals to Avoid This Halloween

(DrEddyClinic News) Halloween is creeping near, are you prepared? Before you make a mad dash to the nearest costume shop, consider this—do you know what’s in your costume? Your masks and makeup?

Image

Terrifying toxins! Catastrophic chemicals! Horrifying harbingers of–ok, alright. You probably get the idea. Festive Halloween accouterments can be loaded with harmful chemicals and toxic metals. It can be difficult to resist a low-price costume produced with cheaply-sourced goods, but there are a few good reasons why you should consider more than price when deciding which Halloween products to buy.

Chemicals in Costumes, Accessories, and Decorations

Costumes, accessories, and decorations from most major national Halloween retailers contain chemicals and additives that have been linked to health issues such as reproductive problems, developmental delays, and even cancer.[1]

PVC, Phthalates, and Dioxins

In one evaluation of nearly 150 Halloween products, one-third contained PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a known endocrine disruptor.[1] Additionally, PVC fabric is frequently treated with chemicals known as phthalates. Children are susceptible to the ill-effects of phthalates http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=32650 which include premature puberty, birth defects, liver problems, and testicular cancer later in life.[2] PVC products also contain dioxins, chemicals that are classified carcinogens and cause reproductive issues and learning delays.[3]

Lead Contamination

Lead is another toxin that often contaminates cheap foreign goods, especially Chinese imports, including food and children’s toys.[4] It shouldn’t be a surprise that lead’s insidious reach extends to Halloween products. In 2012, the US federal government seized over 1400 Halloween costumes of Chinese origin due to lead levels that were 10 times higher than the allowed maximum.[5] Many lead-contaminated costumes or props have a piece or two that will, at some point, find its way into a child’s mouth. The seized items included pirate costumes that had an eye patch that contained over 40 times the legal maximum limit for lead.[6]

Lead poisoning is exceptionally hazardous to children. It interferes with calcium, is toxic to proteins, and has a severely negative effect on nerve function. Exposure to lead is even linked to cognitive and hearing impairment. Lead exposure threatens fetal development as well. Pregnant women who have been exposed to lead may experience miscarriage, premature birth, or have undersized babies.[7]

Flame Retardants

Fabrics that have been treated with flame retardants are another concern with respect to Halloween costume safety. Such fabrics are often contaminated with antimony http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=34306 [8] and other dangerous chemicalshttp://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=32311. Exposure to antimony trioxide, a common flame retardant applied to fabrics, is linked to sharp increases in peripheral arterial disease (PAD),[9] which is a condition that causes atherosclerotic plaque to form in the arteries.[10] Some flame retardants are especially dangerous to children because their chemical structure is similar to developmental neurotoxins, like organophosphate pesticides, which affect brain development.[11]

Toxic Makeup and Glow Sticks

Image
A boy getting his face painted. Some Halloween makeup kits may contain unsafe ingredients that can be toxic.

Many people don’t consider that the skin is their largest organ and one of the first contact points for toxins. Makeup, in general, is something to watch out for, as toxic metals frequently contaminate cosmetics http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=31782.[12, 13] Some face painting kits for children also contain high levels of lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, and antimony, all of which are especially toxic to the kidneys and the immune, reproductive, and nervous systems.[14]

Glow sticks and glow jewelry seem like a harmless way to stay visible while trick-or-treating, but the chemicals in those plastic tubes do pose a threat. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and anthracene, two chemicals found in glow sticks, can be poisonous. But, to be fair to glow sticks, the amount contained is usually too small to cause problems in humans. A more likely scenario is a child or pet getting DBP in their eyes, mouth, or on their skin. For children, the effects range from skin irritation or mild chemical burns to nausea and vomiting if ingested.[15] Pets have a similar reaction—they may drool profusely, retch, vomit, or paw at their mouths if they made the mistake of chewing on a stray glow bracelet.[16] A sick pet or child can ruin your evening, so forego the glow sticks or make sure no one tries to cut (or bite) them open.

How to Have a Healthy, Happy Halloween

We’re not here to ruin Halloween for you—we want you to have the safest, healthiest, and happiest Halloween possible! There are safe alternatives that render the hazardous options completely unnecessary. Of course, you could perform a full body detox http://dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35916, but reducing your exposure to toxins in the first place is a better strategy. When assembling your costume, examine the labels before purchasing. Or, better yet, make your own costumes and accessories yourself with non-toxic materials.

The Top 5 Ways To Ensure a Toxin-Free Halloween

1. Look for makeup kits labeled non-toxic, and make sure they are produced in a country with strict regulations on consumer goods. Wash off makeup before bed.
2. Wear a wig instead of temporary spray-on hair color, as they often contain VOCs.[17]
3. Avoid plastic teeth as they tend to be softened with phthalates.[18]
4. Check labels on costumes and accessories for vinyl (polyvinyl chloride or PVC) and flame retardants.
5. Limit candy consumption, avoid corn syrup and synthetic food dyes http://www.dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=34174.

Healthy Treats Are Important, Too

Image
Decorated fruits on a cutting board. Be aware of food dyes, a toxic chemical present in some Halloween treats.

Toxic costumes aren’t the only potential problem. Conventional Halloween fare is too sugary, over-processed, and full of preservatives and stabilizers. It’s difficult to resist all the Halloween cakes, cookies, and candy, but you can easily find recipes that recreate the traditional treats with legitimately healthy ingredients like cashews, chia seeds, and dark chocolate. Autumn is a time to be indulgent — in a healthy way. Try our dessert recipes for great-tasting and good-for-you alternatives, like the vegan custard-stuffed pumpkin http://dreddyclinic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=36415.
